Introduction to our topic:
We think that electric cars are the future of the car industry and believe the positive impact that electric cars can have on the environment/on climate change can be tremendous. Electric cars have many benefits and we hope by exploring the benefits of electric cars that we can convince some more people to switch to electric vehicles or other similar options.

What was the question (or questions) that you set out to answer and how does this source answer those for you?
Our question going into this article was: What will electric cars be like in the future? This article states that yes, electric vehicles are not going to be as detrimental to the environment as gas cars. “It is complicated doing the emission sums as it depends on what energy sources are used for charging as well as for EV and battery manufacture. But overall there are clear emission savings,” but the article also states that electric cars are going to pose a few problems. For example, the demand for more power “which may create problems for balancing and even running the power grid, especially given that peak EV charging times coincide with peak-heating demand in winter.” Electric cars have so much potential and the author conveys that in the article and believes that electric cars and vehicles can have a positive impact on society.
What new, surprising, or unexpected information came up in this source? (This can be information that was in response to your questions, or information unrelated to your questions.)
Some new information that was conveyed in this source was that electric cars would increase the demand for power. That’s something a lot of people don’t consider when thinking about electric cars in the mainstream, but this can be solved with things like the building of more wind turbines and the use of hydroelectric power plants to supply this energy demand.
What aspect(s) of the problem/issue/topic does this source seem to focus on most? What kinds of information does it not discuss?
The article does not mention the bells and whistles of the electric car, but the article does mention things that can create an eco-friendly person and could convince someone that electric vehicles are helping cut down emissions. It also mentions how we would have to address the problem of electric car energy demands. Engineers and other people would need to find a way to fit electric cars into the power grid. The article briefly mentions the question of autopilot and if autopilot is actually dependable.

With this source, we wanted to make sure that we look at the counter-argument against electric cars and wanted to make sure we included the cons of electric cars. So we went into this source with the following questions:
What are the ways that electric cars can negatively affect the environment? Why are more people buying electric cars than ever before? Do electric cars cause emissions? How much emissions do electric cars produce? How efficient are electric cars? How many more miles per gallon (MPH) do electric cars get compared to gasoline cars?

This source provided a lot of unexpected and surprising information:
According to the article, there are 4 factors that need to be taken into consideration when assessing the environmental impact of electric cars: well-to-wheel emissions, the energy source that charges the battery, the car’s efficiency, and tailpipe emissions. The article explains that “well-to-wheel” emissions is the “overarching term that includes greenhouse gas and air pollutants that are emitted to produce and distribute the energy being used to power the car. According to the source, electric cars produce around 4,500 pounds of CO2, which is half as much as gasoline cars. The energy for electric cars is mainly sourced from natural gas and coal, meaning that there is still CO2 produced when producing the energy for these electric cars. Electric cars get around 100 miles per gallon when compared to gasoline cars. This is due to the fuel efficiency, which is around 60% for electric cars and around 20% for gasoline cars.

The main focus of this source is every aspect of electric vehicles that deals with the environment and electric vehicles. It also focuses on the negative environmental impact of electric cars. The source does not discuss the user-friendliness and the common issues with electric vehicles. The source makes it obvious that the author is a fan of electric vehicles because he does not mention any of the other issues with electric vehicles and it only focuses on the environmental impact of these vehicles.
